Forum cleanup

Postby Banana » Tue Jul 03, 2007 8:49 am

In my eyes, this forum is somewhat of a big mess. "Help me" threads are burgeoning. They are posted anywhere and are often very badly written (even when considering the limited english knowledge of the writters!). All this trash makes the search function totally unusable (why does "firmware" return nothing by the way?). So I propose:

- If possible ban the strings "help" "need firmware" "urgent" from the the subject title. If not possible, those post should land in the trashed posts. It's no use of having

- ANY POST ONLY IN UPPER CASE IN TRASHED POSTS

- Be more aggressive against double/triple post.

- Forum rules says no "need firmware" posts, so enforce this!

So you have the word now.

I also would like to note that the sticky's should get updated:

There are several sticky's asking for firmwares (are all still up to date?):
viewtopic.php?t=6655
viewtopic.php?t=7
viewtopic.php?t=2

Those on gives links (should be merged):
viewtopic.php?t=1065
viewtopic.php?t=254

There are many stickys about "the plague" (several should be deleted because either inaccurate, outdated [links] or unconfirmed):
viewtopic.php?t=349 (links in it don't work! - delete)
viewtopic.php?t=529 (links in it don't work! - delete)
viewtopic.php?t=892 (this one is somewhat bizarre, to me it seems doing the same thing the crooks are doing: fooling the firmware into thinking the chip is bigger than it is, note that he never checked the memory chip he has - I would delete this)
viewtopic.php?t=828 (the "only FAT16" note is outdated. Newer firmwares support FAT32)
viewtopic.php?t=3840
viewtopic.php?t=873
viewtopic.php?t=2024
viewtopic.php?t=1796 (it seems you don't need to do the risky firmware procedure to get it right: creating an encrypted partition and reverting that change seems to do the trick - on top, it doesn't explain that the memory was facked - see answers to the post - delete or update)

Banana,

yeah, I fully agree with you.

I was a very active moderator once, but the overwhelming amount of trash-like posts made me stay away from the forums for some time ...

Would you like to be a moderador, and help us clean things up ?

Thanks for this offer. However, I was not active on this forum for quite some time now and I put most on my free time on other projects, so I prefer not to accept it.

Regards
