Please, follow this guide:

Make sure to check your chip capacity before trying that.
1GB Standard s1 mp3 player. (MP-482C MAIN V8)
1GB "mp4" s1mp3 player. Not remarked.

My chip is the 1GB and initially it held 1GB of files. My mistake was deleting everything (which failed) so I formatted the disk and am now left with the familiar 118MB. Tried removing the partition (QTPARTED) but only partially successful. Will pursue the firmware route, if I can work out how to do it. Greg

I've now followed the advice:
flashed a different firmware - formatted using the tools (still 119MB)
flashed original firmware back (after repairing it)
    still 119MB even after formatting

Surely there must be a firmware update somewhere to overcome this problem.

After reading the boards, I feel sure that the problem arose from deleting the system files from the root directory. Does anyone have a working s1mp3 and therefore a copy of these files? Greg
