everything okay, exept that i can't play my files

I was getting a lot off errors reading and writing files on my mp3 player, so i decided to format it.
It's a 2GB glacier.

I formated it with gparted, now i don't get any errors and i can perfectly read write files to it. But when i go to the music player in the mp3player device it just says "empty disk".

I made a 1,9GB FAT16 partition... what's wrong in here?

Why can't i see the files from the player even though when i connect the player to the computer the files are there... all of them?

Any ideas?

how do i find out if it is broken or not?
Can it be some firmware bug? I would go for a firmware update if so
