S1MP3's FM Radio reception capabilities

Postby SAZAR » Fri May 04, 2007 8:15 pm

S1MP3 players are capable of receiving FM signals.

Now: is s1mp3 player limited by hardware, or you can (through firmware tweaking, or something (even hardware intervention!)) make it receive frequencies not in the range of what comes with s1mp3 player you buy?

Then: is it possible to make it receive TV audio signal (so you listen on s1mp3 to what you would on a TV set with areal reception)? That would be really cool.

And finally: is it possible to make a program for player's firmware so it could show you even TV picture (128x128 pixel TV (b/w? color? and what framerate? 1fps? 5? ... 24fps!?!)) along with the sound?

(I guess TV signal (radio waves, frequency modulated) is just some waveform (just like sound), and when you turn some of the values from that waveform to digital numbers (which, obviously s1mp3 is capable of cause it's digital radio) you can show that on the screen as pixels of different lightness/color (I'm not that familiar with TV techniques - I guess R,G,B and B/W signals come on slightly different frequencies, but even if that's case - that would still allow for B/W TV picture on s1mp3 - anyhow))

It seems these people who moderate this place cooled down on s1mp3 fever.

I left a couple of messages these past days - noone answers. It seems that they are not interested in this any more.

BARMAN2005, I've read your problem, and I don't know what's the deal, but... maybe it would be a good idea to ask someone with the same model to check it's firmware so you know exactly what functional unit has (first, I guess you have to download a program that does that), and even copy that exact firmware to your mp3player...

LAWL, Yeah, I wish there was a better more active place for discussion about S1mp3 players. Anyways, it would be impossible to get TV signals on your S1mp3 /mp4 player. There is too many reasons to list why it wouldn't work.

No, it won't work. TV is broadcasted on other frequencies with other standards. Or can you watch DVB-T on an analog TV card (frequencies are the same here!)?

Why are you doing this?
Why are you mentioning DVB-T (Digital Video Broatcast - Terrestrial) as an example?
Digital signal is encoded - we are not talking same stuff here. Digital <-> Analog.

We are talking analog audio signal here. Plain oldstyle TV signal is broadcasted on different frequencies for video and audio.
Why couldn't some program be made for s1mp3 to filter out that audio signal - analog TV audio signal would be amusing enough.

No one answered my question: can s1mp3 radio recieve frequencies out of preseted range?

Hi there !

Could be very interesting :)
...Noone answered my question: can s1mp3 radio recieve frequencies out of preseted range?...
I think it's possible because in original firmware, in radio menu, if you change band from European FM to Japanese band, you can receive differents frequencies...

Bye !

What? I did answer your question! I said no! So what's the problem? Find and check the spec sheet of the FM chip if you don't beleive me.
