Hi all, I'm new here so go easy on me. :D Just got an Uxcell MP4 player today via eBay... it's a 2GB Nano-style player, looks like this:

I'm keen to examine it's firmware and to change some of the "lotus blossom" style images and perhaps to replace the serif font (ugly as hell) with something else. But, of course, I will do lots of reading up (and backing up of the current firmware!) first.

Will report more when I'm examined it.

Cheers,

{RainmakeR}

UPDATE: Ok, the firmware tool is reporting firmware version 3.5.37.

Hi Flashget,

I've dumped the firmware using the tool you linked to, and I've 7-Zipped the file and uploaded to MyTempDir here:

http://www.mytempdir.com/670956

Hope it works for you! Note, I can't be held responsible for a dead device, yada yada yada! :)

Cheers

Heh, yeah you get what you pay for sometimes I guess. :) I replaced the headphones with a pair of Panasonic RP-HNJ50's, which sound much better, but I had to use a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter. :(

I've been messing around with the firmware, changing startup logos and a few other things, it's pretty easy to do but you have to be careful and every time I re-upload the firmware there is this big delay where I'm sure it's going to die. :)

There is plenty of info in here and on the wiki if you want to mess around with it, but BE CAREFUL, and do NOT update with firmware from other players, even it they look the same.

Sometimes the battery indicator goes down quickly, but then they stay at the bottom for a long time but contune to work :)

Sometimes the more you use the player, the better the battery life.

I'm a newbie! This is mine........ imported from a ebay china seller..
Some s1 firmware alone with sigmatel and sunplus firmware at http://www.aishon.com/download

AISHON A711 MP3/MP4/REC [manufacturer Aishon Technology, Qingdao ,China]

1GB [verified] Samsung Memory
AMV playback [fullscreen] [odd quirk, must be turned on using power switch rather than play button to play some videos]
MTV playback [using audio player]
1.5inch 128x128 65K color CSTN LCD
Built in speaker x1 <- hardly working one. damaged on arrival
Internal 420mAh battery [which just died yesterday, leading me to buy a digicam battery [500mAh] that happened to be compatible when soldered in]
FM radio
Voice Record
Dual Earphones
No games or telbook
Firmware: SRX3.2.16 as displayed by player [upgrade app reports 3.5.31] have not found any compatible one yet, even the supplied one does not work and is an older version] Core: ACTS16D_15<- did not find any info on this revision.
Metal Control buttons [except play and on/off switch]
Full aluminium back case in sleek looking black [not painted but anodized]!

All for the low low price of $60USD with shipping to Singapore
I'll upload my firmware dump if anyone requests it, along with the manufacturer supplied one.

Had experience successfully reviving a ipod clone [MP693C-SL] that did not work with the firmware dumps on the site. =)
