How to disassemble a S1 mp3 style XO
(updated)

(this guide will be probably partially (or fully?) copied to the main page.)

Hi,

before beginning: some images are blurred, sorry :D . Also, English is not my maternal language and I might be not clear, again sorry for the inconvenience if it occurs. Anyway, There is so much pictures that all is quite self-explanative.

The French (and trustable) version is available here

If you need any help, please contact me : jarhmander^@^gmail.com. [edit: ian_hawdon, protected email :D ]

At the end of the guide, there is a picture showing the separate parts and the name that I gave them through the guide.

Step Alpha :

This guide is for the style XO only. That style is, in my opinion, the most beautiful of all S1 mp3 styles, and, unfortunately, the Crunchy's guide doesn't apply to these players. I tried, but it broke a part of the player (the "metal" part) and when I was able to find how to open my player correctly, I had to repair that piece with Krazy(c) glue.

In my avatar, you can see Kirby holding a style XO S1mp3 :P . The bigger image of that player is below, make sure you have something
similar.

Image

If that player resembles to yours, continue reading.

Step 0 :

That step is the same step of the Crunchy's guide. I don't need to explain more : work at a good place to be sure to lose nothing.

Note: summary: to disassemble your player you must remove the glass part and the mic plastic part. Those pieces are stuck on the "metal" part, and beside them there is 4 screws. Because I suggest beginning with the glass part, and after remove the other piece, I wrote this guide in this order.

Step 1 :

My player :
ImageInitially it was not black, I painted it!

You have to remove that glass part with a needle by using one of its corners and lever. It is not hard, that piece is stuck with a kind of tape, anyway you'd understand when you see it.

Image

Step 2 :

2 holes with screw in are now revealed. This is for a little later :P ... Now it's the turn of the mic plastic part to be removed. For that I suggest using a knife or a fine flat screwdriver.

Image
[you see those cracks on the "metal" part? It's why you have not to follow the Crunchy's guide for this kind of player. =( ]

Step 3 :

When you remove the last part you see entirely the "metal" part and 2 more holes with screws in. Now unscrew them and as Crunchy wrote, DO NOT LOSE THEM!!! YOU NEED THEM! Note : screws are hard to remove and I suggest you to press down strongly your screwdriver on those tiny screw while unscrewing to avoid notching them.

Image[Wow! You're about to finish! :D ]

Now you can remove the "metal" part. After, you just have to take the PBC off of the biggest plastic part. To do so, a simple way is to remove the battery cover and to push on the PBC at that side. Warning: don't lose the HOLD button!

Image
[You may notice in the picture above that I isolated my player... Uh uh uh.]

You're done!

Image(Kirby's
victory dance)

Congratulation! You successfully disassembled your player!

You can paint all plastic parts if you want! ( mine is black, as you can see.)

You can also remove the three buttons. Just use again a knife or a fine flat screwdriver.

Image

---***---

Reassembling:

•Note1 : When placing the PBC put the folded LCD connector first. The connector have to be between the PBC and the biggest plastic part border.
•Note2 : The buttons may be not aligned. It doesn't matter, it is normal.
•Note3 : For the mic plastic part, don't use a strong glue to paste it. It doesn't need it and the next time you'd like to open your player again you'll have no difficulty to do it.
•Note4 : You might have difficulty to put the PBC in the biggest plastic part. It is caused by the negative connector ( the spring ) who does not enter in. Check the spring and make it enter.

_______

---The Names of the Pieces---

Image

1-The biggest plastic part ( it's the biggest o_O )

2-The battery cover (mine has a hole... it allow me to plug 3.6V cordless phone batteries!)

3-The "metal" part (it isn't fully metal, it's just metal-plated plastic )

4-The glass (it's really made of that, beware of scratches!)

5-The mic plastic part.

6-The three buttons.

7-That PBC (Plastic Broken Crap) must be the thing who makes my player works...

8-The HOLD button.

Few pics...

Those are respectively the front and the back of the player.

Strangely, I have nothing written with white ink, however I've got a white square with something written inside, near to my Hynix... ZD 0411

And I've got that too .............
............

What a surprise! I got a female player!!! It is quite a cute name, LAURA. It is now its name.

Wladston is saying, if you want us to host the pictures, ask him and he will give you an administrator account for the main page, (not the forum)

Hoah thanks!
I was afraid to have a forum admin account. Because sincerely, I don't want to be a moderator because except for week-ends, I don't have a lot of time to check all posts  ...
Does that require a lot of responsibility ? If not , it's okay for the admin account.
( I would be happy to contribuate a lot to this project, but I don't own a computer, so I cannot be every day on that site and nothing is secure for the computer I am using now : it belong to my old brother which is 19 and he is about to leave I think ... so if a real big role is the admin account, I cannot accept that invitation, I don't want to do crap, you understand ? :D )
