It is caused by the chinese manufactures covering up their mistakes of ordering the wrong chips and formatting them to look bigger!!!
But how do i know if I am affacted?
First, look for the telltail signs:
You once had a large memory space, (1GB for examble)
You tried to put more than 128MB of data on, and the player says "Format error"
You then format the player only to find you now have a nice 119MB player!!!
IF THIS IS YOU, READ ON!!!
There is no way of "fixing" this via firmware as it is the wrong chip!
TO SEE IF YOUR PLAYER IS TRULY AFFECTED READ ON!!! (AGAIN)
Open your player: look for the memory chip
it should be marked HYNIX (or samsung but we have not heard of any problems with them yet!):
check the REAL size of your chip, with this table:

* (1 Byte = 8 bits)

The ONLY way to fix this problem is to solder a new memory chip in to your player and re flashing your original firmware!
